"The Matches" is an American pop punk band from Oakland, California that formed in 1997. The band members include Shawn Harris (vocals, guitar), Jonathan Devoto (guitar, vocals), Matt Whalen (bass, vocals), and Matt DePauw (drums). They are known for their high-energy live performances and their unique blend of punk, rock, and pop.
Their debut album, "E. Von Dahl Killed the Locals," was released in 2003 and received critical acclaim. The Matches went on to release three more albums, including "Decomposer" in 2006, which was produced by Mark Hoppus of Blink-182.
The Matches have toured with bands such as Green Day, Blink-182, Sum 41, and Motion City Soundtrack. They have also performed at various festivals, including Warped Tour and SXSW.
In 2009, The Matches announced an indefinite hiatus, with members pursuing other projects. However, they have since reunited for occasional shows and performances.
